Geap International (UAE) LLC is an offshoot of a group of companies with plants throughout India, which started operation in Dubai in the year 1974. The group initially set-up a manufacturing plant for the production of welding electrodes in order to serve the GCC and MENA region. However, after the successful establishment of the plant 45 years ago, they came to realize there was a need for a professional trading company in the construction sector. Since the group had long experience in international trading and adequate financial and logistic resources, an international trading division was set-up for construction materials.
This division began with bulk imports of steel, cement, and timber. Operations grew quickly, and in a short span of time, the group became one of the biggest importers
of these products in the region. Subsequently, additional activities, including construction chemicals, furniture fittings, and ironmongery were added to the activities of the group, either on a standalone basis, as joint ventures or via distributorship agreements with leading overseas companies.
Due to the group’s involvement with major projects, such as Burj Al Arab, Burj Khalifa, Dubai International Airport, Abu Dhabi International Airport, Emirates Palace Hotel, most major five star hotels, Emaar projects and various projects on Palm Island, its growth has been extraordinary, with several acquisitions.
One thing that has remained constant, though, is the Geap Group’s relationship with Jafza, with the latter helping it to set-up both joint ventures and a manufacturing operation. Mahendra Patel, Group Managing Director, stated:
