New Desalination Plant for DEWA

Dubai electricity and water authority (DEWA) has awarded an AED 900 million (USD 237 million) contract for the construction of a 40 million imperial gallons per day (MIGD) seawater reverse osmosis (SWRO) desalination plant in Jafza to a joint-venture comprising Acciona and Belhasa Six Construct (BESIX).

Jesús Sancho, Managing Director at ACCIONA Middle East said, “The desalination plant at DEWA ́s facilities inside the Jebel Ali Power Station (JAPS) has some unique differentiators from other ACCIONA designed and built desalination plants in the GCC. This is the first time in many years, that DEWA has entrusted a core drinking water production facility to SWRO technology on such a large scale.” DEWA’s facility in Jafza for power generation and water desalination will be one of the largest complexes of its type in the world. “ACCIONA has maintained a smooth and continuous relationship with all the stakeholders and authorities involved in this essential project and appreciates the support given by all of them, which is critical to the proper execution of this facility,” Sancho added.
